Biblical Finances

By: Stephen Fratello

It seems you can’t flip a page in the paper or turn on the television without hearing about the economy and the financial crisis America is facing. What is a financial lie? Borrowing more than you can pay back and spending more than you have. Oh, well, wait a minute! Aren’t we supposed to trust God for abundance? Yes, we are, but if we (and the country, banks and corporations, ect.) can’t be trusted and responsible for what God has provided to begin with, it’s hard for Him to give us more. Be honest with money and live within what God has given you, but keep trusting him to bless you even more as you show diligent responsibility with what He has currently blessed you with.

In the meantime, we have to keep focusing on God’s promises to us. He has plans for prosperity and a good future. No matter what you’re facing, there is a way out. Jesus came that we may have life and life more abundantly. He will do a new thing. We need to renew our mind and thoughts and meditate on these promises daily. This too shall pass, because it always does. Nothing is forever. We have God’s favor and He will do works in us. Be truthful with money and with yourselves. At the same time, keep believing God for that miracle.

I’d like to leave you with this thought. Many of us dream of what abundance would look like on earth. We all hold a specific concept of that in our minds, but if each of us really were to become loving, accepting and devoted to spreading harmony, this world would literally experience heaven on earth. I think it would be so overwhelming that the only thing to do would be to weep tears of utter joy. But the change starts within us. Just stop and think how if you gave a little to your neighbor and your neighbor gave a little to their neighbor, and so on…we would all be taken care of. Nobody would have to go with out. A lot of “littles” goes a long way. We see the Amish culture being an example of this. If one person becomes ill, the others take care of them and provide for the family. The community unites and becomes the provider for the less fortunate. I personally believe that we have a responsibility to each other as a global Christian community. Stop and meditate on this concept with your total attention. If each of us made a commitment to do one small thing for someone everyday, to help out, we would live in a whole new world. I can’t think of a better time than now to start practicing this concept. Is there a neighbor you could cook dinner for one night? Clothes you could give away? Look for the lesson in these times. Maybe this is God’s way of doing a new work in us. If we don’t change, how can the economy?
