"Flicka" (2006)
The Story of More Than One Restless Spirits
Katherine McLaughlin (Alison Lohman) is the only daughter in a long line of ranchers, and she is just like her own father, Rob McLaughlin (Tim McGraw) in the sense that they both have a restless character, trying to find some peace and happiness in their own world, which is their ranch in Laramie, Wyoming. Flicka is presented by Twentieth Century Fox Entertainment and based off of the novel, "My Friend Flicka" by Mary O'Hara. I was truly delighted to see it. I never actually was one to appreciate the beauty of horses until I saw this riveting film. Immediately I fell in love with them. This movie is about family. It's about struggles. It's about finding something that brings true contentment to ones heart.
The movie starts off showing Kat at her private school having troubles with grades. Then, she sets back home to the ranch in Laramie, Wyoming, where she is saved by a beautiful black mustang in the woods, soon named Flicka, the meaning being, "Beautiful Young Girl". Some events lead up to capturing the wild horse, and then Dad (Tim McGraw) firmly states, "Nobody goes in there with her without my permission." He is completely and utterly against the idea of his daughter training the wild mustang. (in which she has a strong passion to do). He is afraid that she'll get hurt. He also finds out about her grades which doesn't assist the situation any. At dinner the first night of the horse being held captive, Dad says, "You don't know a dang thing about that creature". Kat replies, "We are the same". She knows she has a restless spirit. Her dad does not realize his yet. While all along, Mom (Maria Bello) and Brother (Ryan Kwanten) believe that training her own horse will make her more responsible. Dad continues to be head strong, stubborn, and calls that "Psycho Babble".
Kat begins sneaking out late at a night to visit the horse. She commences training it in the middle of the hours of darkness, until she's eventually caught. Dad sells Flicka to the rodeo, and in Kat's soul, She will not let anything get in her way of getting the horse back. This is a very touching film about the important things in life. Love, Family, Friendship, Dedication … the list goes on and on. We recommend that you take a looking at it.
