It’s a long way from New Zealand to Indianapolis. Just ask Scott Dixon who, in eight years, became a record-breaking racecar driver.

On May 25, 2008 Scott was the 13th winner of the famed INDY 500, receiving a purse of $2.5 million. The entire purse is an estimated $13.4 million for the race.

He is the 19th driver to win from the pole and takes over the lead in overall points. He hails from New Zealand and started his racing career in karting, winning two championships in New Zealand. His career took him to Australia where he won a championship in the “Class 1 Formula Ford Series” and “Rookie of the Year” in the Australian Formula Holden Championship.

On to Daytona in 2000 where, with PacWest Racing he took six wins, seven podium finishes and one pole position. He was the second youngest driver in history to win the “Indy Lights” title.

In 2001 Dixon moved onto the CART Series where, in his debut run he led 14 laps in Monterrey, Mexico. In Nazareth, PA. He became the youngest ever winner of a CART race or any major open wheel race at the tender age of 20 years, 9 months and 14 days.

He continued with a podium finish at Milwaukee and took fourth place at Chicago, Road America and Laguna Seca.

His rookie Champ Car season was remarkable. He earned championship Points in 11 of 20 starts, led the FedEx championship Series in laps completed, miles completed and also received Rookie of the Year.

He joined the Target Chip Ganassi Racing group in 2002. He continued with wins in Florida, Pikes Peak Colorado, Phoenix Arizona and Japan.

His career continues to flourish. With the INDY 500 under his belt he has a roster of races throughout the summer as he conquers more raceways.
