GIANTS BEAT PATRIOTS 17-14

By Denise Miller

In one of the largest upsets in Super bowl history, the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in an electric fourth quarter that had everyone holding their breath.

The score had held for three quarters at 7-3; Patriots lead. Then, the Giants got a touchdown; now 7-10; New Yorkers were starting to believe! Then, in the fourth, the Patriots got a touchdown with two minutes left in the game. Now 14-10. Giants fans watched the clock tick down - “tick tock, tick tock” - then Quarterback Eli Manning, broke away from the crowd, threw a 13 yard fade to Plaxico Burress and he caught it over his head in the end-zone- Touchdown!!

The clock was at 35 seconds, “Tick Tock, Tick Tock”! The plays continued, with a collective breath held by Giants fans everywhere as every toss was stopped by the Giants. The clock had one second left and press, fans and others poured onto the field while officials tried to restore order. That done, they positioned for the next play as the last second ticked and the Giants Won the Super Bowl!

This is the third Super Bowl Title for the Giants and their sixth NFL Title. The loss was a bitter one for the Patriots who were 18-1, one play away from an absolute perfect season! They were the first team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins for having a perfect season and their first defeat in over a year.

The Giants can credit a strong defense for their accomplishment of this improbable comeback. This was the most highly viewed Super Bowl in history according to the ratings.

American Idol winner, Jordan Sparks, sang the Star spangled Banner and the half-time show featured Tom Petty. It was, without a doubt, a great end to the professional NFL Season!
