August is When to Travel to Scotland

By Rebecca Sebek

Before visiting the Grand Canyon, take a detour and stop at Spirit Mountain Ranch in Kendrick Park, Flagstaff, Arizona. When God’s hands touched this part of Arizona, he created the highest mountain in Arizona known as the San Francisco Peaks. This beautiful area is the backdrop for Spirit Mountain Ranch and The Sacred White Buffalo.

In 1997, rancher Jim Riley saved a female white buffalo from a young bull that tried to kill the newborn. Jim risked his own life to save the precious newborn’s life from the bull. It was a miracle that the little female buffalo was not killed. The newborn buffalo was named “Miracle Moon” because without a doubt it was a miracle that she survived the bull’s numerous attacks.

Only one in 10 million white buffalo are born; they are very rare. The Sacred White Buffalo of Spirit Mountain Ranch were DNA tested and confirmed to be the only pure-blooded buffalo in North America today. Miracle Moon was tested three times for purity! She is not albino; her eyes are large and dark and she has blonde eyelashes.

White buffalo are known to be healers. According to Native American prophecy, the white buffalo is a symbol for people to come together in peace, harmony, and balance. Legend says that the white buffalo would return amidst a time of chaos and disaster. Miracle Moon’s birth is important to humanity regardless of race, religion, or culture. This can be proven by all of the offerings that are left at the ranch. People who visit Spirit Mountain Ranch tie ribbons, bandanas, bracelets, necklaces, and even ballet shoes to the fencing that surrounds the white buffalo. It’s a place for people to connect spiritually and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Admission to view The Sacred White Buffalo is $5 per person or $15 for a group of six. Hours of operation are daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Please call to verify as hours are subject to change. Spirit Mountain Ranch is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. For those that wish to adopt a white buffalo the cost is $25 or $100 for the herd.
